37 Week Update

How far along: 37 Weeks (9 months 1 week)
(*FYI for those of you who don’t know a pregnancy is technically 40 weeks (10 months!) Before I became pregnant I had no idea! I always thought it was 9 months. So my due date is still a few weeks out but really hoping she stays a little longer, but Ive been having dreams she's coming a little early!)
Gender: Girl 
Total weight gain: Like 40 lbs!! The last time I checked I lost 3 lbs thou, but I was working out a lot that week and the heart burn was making it harder to eat as much as I wanted to. 
Maternity clothes: Yes still mixed in with my regular clothes, and sometimes I like to try on pre-baby dresses to see if they still fit. I thought I would be more instagramable when I got pregnant, but hell to the no.. Ive just been living in the same two dresses, braless and all. 
Stretch marks: Not really, maybe a few on my hips but barely! I still moisturize and drink so much water. 
Sleep: Surprisingly pretty good this week. I am still using three different pillows and getting up multiple times to waddle to the bathroom but I think I just must be getting used to it by now. I had a love/hate relationship with the maternity pillow. I thought it was going to be so good, and just started getting neck cramps and back aches from it. 
Miss Anything: Sleeping without having to wake up more than 3 times. Wine. Being able to eat without heartburn, and sleeping on my back! 
Movement: She moves SO MUCH! I love it, and its not just the tiny little flickers of her feet anymore, its full on bum pushing against my tummy. 
Cravings: Mostly fruit, like pineapples and raspberries. Too bad they give me the worst heartburn after or I would be eating it non-stop. 
Symptoms: Im not sure if I have been having Braxton Hicks, I don't think I have. I also think I would know if I feel like I'm having contractions. I have been feeling (sometimes sharp) kicks down there, I don't think she has dropped yet (sometimes called "lightening") but there has been some serious lower movements since last week. 
Belly Button in or out: In, my mom said hers didn't pop out either. 
Mood: Happy, anxious and nervous! Isn't that what all first time moms feel thou? 
Looking forward to: My next midwives appointment, to hear her heartbeat and to hear when they think I will have her. The 8th when I get to see her during the next ultrasound, and hopefully Tony can make it to this one. I feel bad when he's working and I know he wants to be there with me. 
Exercise: Still going to yoga, but I stopped going to Cross Fit. I have been trying to walk as much as possible, and might try to go tomorrow morning if it's nice out. Me and Tony usually try to be outside together during the weekends. 
Nutrition: My eating habits aren't ALWAYS good (tonight we had breakfast for dinner), but Tony has caught several fish this past weekend and that is so good for the developing baby's brain. I have had a high DHA, Omega-3 & Folic Acid diet before and after I got pregnant. 
Favorite moments this week: Feeling her move so much in my belly, but my most favourite is every night when Tony tells her he loves her and rubs my belly, and every morning when we wake up and he kisses the belly and me.

It feels like winter here in Ontario, Canada has already been here for way too long, and I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I would prefer the snow to melt, and spring to be here the day after Christmas. I am missing those longer days, sunny walks on dewy grass and being warm enough that I don’t have to wear a gazillion layers. 
Maybe it's part hormones, or part Seasonal Depression a.k.a “the winter blues”; but I have been feeling a bit morose lately. I have found writing a gratitude journal helps, because gratitude strengthens our emotions, reduces the feelings of envy and makes our memories happier, that lets us experience the good feelings and helps us bounce back from stress. 
As part of a gratitude practice, I will share writing prompts for gratitude for every month or week (depending on what I think is necessary), and since this will be my first post I am beginning with the 20 things in my life that I am extremely thankful for. 

                            20 Things To Be Thankful For : 

  1. A warm, and sunny spring day. When you can feel the sun rays warm your cheeks, and you close your eyes and breathe in a deep breath of fresh air. 
  2. Road trips with Tony, whether its travelling the States, or driving across Canada. I love doing anything with him.
  3. Staying in bed a little later with Tony on Sunday’s 
  4. The cottage on a hot summer morning with my parents
  5. Morning jogs alone, just to meditate and enjoy mornings. 
  6. When Baby P kicks and moves. Nothing makes me more happier than feeling her move after I eat or before bed when her Daddy tells her he loves her. 
  7. Being able to give life, and have a baby with the love of my life.  
  8. When T tells Baby P how much he loves her as soon as he wakes up and before he goes to bed. Nothing makes me more happy in this world. 
  9. A clean, bright and beautiful home that’s ours and that are blessed enough to own the home of our dreams. 
  10. Having a good tan, getting my nails done, and freshly washed hair. 
  11. A good book (Im reading Big Magic). 
  12. Going to the gym and being able to workout while pregnant. 
  13. Going to Yoga. 
  14. Eating healthy, and having access to fresh food. 
  15. Having a morning coffee on a cold winters day. 
  16. Listening to the birds and bugs on a summer or spring day, with the windows of our home open.
  17. Bella & Kitty and how much they love us. 
  18. Going exploring with my sister (hiking, swimming in caves in Mexico). 
  19. Not being hungover, and sober (obviously since I am pregnant, but it is such a good feeling to not drink alcohol and being a homebody).
  20. Being inspired by amazing mothers who are also business owners, writers, and creatives.

My Pregnancy Morning Routine

We all know how you start your mornings, sets the tone for the rest of your day. If I am going to be completely honest, my perfect morning wouldn't be spending forever in bed or sleeping in until noon. It would be waking up early getting a morning work out in, or at least yoga since I'm currently 8 months pregnant. 


However, most days start off with my other half getting up for work at 6:30/7 in the morning and I can never seem to sleep in after he leave, so my morning begins there.  I get out of bed, put on something comfy, and fix the bed. It's honestly the best feeling when you start your day off with a clean bedroom, its one less thing you have to do when your super busy.

Next, I hydrate and drink at least two cups of water every morning! I feel like it helps get things moving, and I can also tell when I apply makeup later that I have less lines or wrinkles from being dehydrated. Plus, I have always loved doing this light cleanse in the morning:
6-7 cups of water
3-5 tablespoons of organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar
1/2 grapefruit 
Tons of mint leaves! 
1-2 tablespoon organic cayenne powder 
1 tablespoon organic turmeric powder 

Disclaimer: Being pregnant, this concoction has given me the WORST heart burn and I can barely handle having lemon in my water now. So I have been sticking to my daily vitamins and supplements with water. 


I have done the same facial morning routine, every single day since I was at least 10 or 11. I swear this makes the biggest difference for my skin, and the proof is in the pudding! My sister is 5 years younger than me, has never had a solid cleaning regime and I get asked for MY ID all the time and people always confuse me with being the younger sister. ( ;) sorry Mich, but I told you so!).

How I contour - my first youtube video

I have been doing makeup professionally for over 7 years, and I regularly get asked to show how I contour, or apply my makeup. I decided that I would share a video how I do my contour for when I want to look a bit more put together, which looks great in photos but might be a bit much for a day to day look. Most days I rarely wear any makeup, I like to let my skin breathe as much as possible which prevents breakouts or flare ups in problematic skin.

However, there are days that I do wear makeup and I LOVE trying out different products, and creating different looks. I guess I am more of a "wear nothing" or "wear it all" type of girl when it comes to applying makeup. At the end of the day I love being a girly-girl, and experimenting with beauty products as much as any one.

34 weeks - Pregnancy Update

Wow I feel like this whole pregnancy just flew by! I am not high risk or have any complications with the pregnancy, thats been easy (minus the extreme morning sickness and the heart burn). What really was horrible, was that in my second trimester I broke a back molar which happens sometimes with pregnancy because it weakens your teeth. I couldn’t save it and had to get it pulled, but ended up getting Dry socket which is excruciating pain! I would have rather have broken bones than experience that again. I got put on some strong (baby safe) pain meds for two weeks while it got better as well as antibiotics. By 25 weeks, I started having a very sharp pain in my upper right side, which didn’t go away for three days. I decided to call Telahealth and they advised me to go to the hospital. A few tests later, and I was diagnosed with Gallstones. These are painful even with pain meds, and ultimately landed me back in the hospital a few times after that as well. I have seen a specialist to make sure I wouldn’t be at risk for having an attack so bad before I have baby that I would have to have surgery. 
All those rolls, kicks, and jabs are the most beautiful and reassuring thing for me. The little life inside of me is happy and moving about, and theres nothing more precious than that feeling!
I am currently on my way to go see baby P in her growth update this morning, and I am so excited to see how big she has gotten since the last update. 
I have to say…I appreciate all of you so much! The support and love you have shown me has really encouraged me. I read every comment you write on all my social media, and it blesses me more than you know!
I found this little question sheet for bump updates so I figured I’d fill it out to close this 34 week blog post:

How far along: 34 weeks!
Gender: Girl! 
How big is baby: Baby P is the size of a cantaloupe, and she can now react to simple songs we play for her. 
Have you started to show yet: Yes!! I was was so excited to show off this baby bump! I just started showing in the last few weeks.
Weight Gain: 40 lbs!! 
Maternity Clothes: Sometimes. I wear maternity dresses and tee shirts, but I just have been wearing my normal leggings because they are the comfiest. I normally wear a lot of casual wear so it works with my belly! I didn’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on maternity clothes, and since I’m not really THAT big compared to a lot of other women at this stage I can get away with over sized regular clothing atm.  
Stretch Marks: Nope, I have religiously been using coconut oil every day and night.
Belly Button in or out: In, apparently my mom’s didn’t pop either. Tony looks every day if its popped! Haha. 
Cravings: Fruit and veggies. I wish I could eat more fruit but it is so highly acidic that it give me heart burn. 
Anything make you queasy or sick: Nothing that didn’t make me sick before I was pregnant 😉
Happy or Moody: Happy! Surprisingly and I’ve had a lot of energy during these last two weeks for some reason! I’ve even made it to the gym and yoga a few times this week. 
Movement: Lots of it! And I love it so much. There’s no way to describe it other than amazing and beautiful.
Sleep: What’s that? Or should I say what’s good sleep haha. I toss and turn all night! Unfortunately a good night sleep won’t be coming back for a while!
What I miss: I thought I would be saying wine, but I really don’t miss that at all. However, what I do miss is working out, jogging and CrossFit! I miss sleeping good without my hips and arms going numb at night. I also miss wearing some cute clothes, they no longer fit properly but that will just be my motivation to get back in the gym.  
Looking forward to: Meeting our baby girl! February is right around the corner.

Pregnancy Essentials (Part 1) Protein & Prenatal's

It has been officially 33 weeks that I have been pregnant for, and it has been full of ups and many, many downs. I’ve struggled with keeping not only my sanity in check but my health as well. At 20 weeks I was in the hospital and had been diagnosed with gallstones, that would continue to give me “attacks" right up until the end of this pregnancy or worst case scenario I would be forced to have a surgery and have baby P really early (which is of course every new moms nightmare). My main concern is the health of baby, and without taking care of myself first how would I be able to take care of her? which only makes the most sense.   

I will be doing a full blog post on what having gallstones while pregnant means, the causes and what you changes you can make in your lifestyle before becoming pregnant to avoid gallstones.

There are a few things I have been doing religiously since I became pregnant, and the first thing even before I got pregnant.. while we were still in the planning stages, I started taking prenatal vitamins. The prenatal vitamins I have been taking are made by Jamieson with DHA, the Centrum prenatal’s, magnesium and Omega 3’s. I found that taking these made my hair thicker and my nails stronger, and that was just the benefits I saw with in the first few weeks for myself. Not only is there enormous benefits for you and your energy levels but also the following benefits for baby as well. 

The benefits of prenatal vitamins
  • Cuts back on nausea, because the Vitamin B6 helps to reduce morning sickness. 
  • Boosts fertility and also upping the chances that you’ll make that healthy baby faster. 
  • Reduces the rick of birth defects, because of the folic acid it contains but it is also known as folate when it’s in food form which you can get from eating things like spinach. Studies show that getting enough folic acid before sperm meets egg and in the early stages of pregnancy can dramatically reduce the risk of neural tube defects in your developing baby.  (For more info www.whattoexpect.com
Magnesium: Magnesium helped me when I had restless legs and leg cramps that sometimes happen during pregnancy. I didn't take these everyday, instead I took them when I felt I needed them before bed.

Omega 3's: Not only is Omega 3 good for the babies cognitive developments, but studies have shown that a higher consumption of Omega 3's and DHA's during pregnancy may help in reducing the risk of developing allergies in infants. 


Protein: We know that protein is made up of amino acids and those are the building blocks of your body’s cells and the same goes for your baby. It is so important (especially during the second and third trimesters) to get enough protein because thats when the baby needs it the most and the growth of muscles and fats happen at an increased rate. 

My absolute favourite protein powder is from Progressive, its called VegEssential All in One, which I love because it is a plant-based, Non-GMO Vegan protein powder that is full of vitamins, and minerals that is essential to daily health and great for mom and baby. 

Peppermint tea: I can't tell you how much I LOVE having a hot cup of black peppermint or spearmint tea in the evenings, not only is it super calming but it helps ease your stomach if its upset and will help you get to sleep quicker.

Who doesn't love a new purse? especially one thats super stylish and also a really adaptable diaper bag! The other day I was doing some local shopping, and decided to stop in at this really cute store for nursing mothers or mothers to be called Rosy Posey in Midland. I had stopped in just to check out what kind of things were for sale there, and was so pleased to have met the owner who happens to be the kindest and sweetest mother/entrepreneur. I saw this bag and for the next month I could not stop thinking about it (you know its a must-have when you can't get it out of your head).
